How to Make Tamari Roasted Sunflower Seeds in a skillet.

Of course you can buy them from the bulk bins, the grocery store see-through dispensaries of myriad granola, beans, grains, flour, dried fruit, and nuts. But I think tamari roasted seeds and nuts are better homemade. They taste fresher and the ingredient list is short. This recipe teaches how to make tamari roasted sunflower seeds in a skillet–at home!

Toast the nuts until they’re golden, then sizzle tamari soy sauce into the hot pan. The tamari dissipates and seasons the seeds at the same time.  It’s that easy.

Tamari is my kitchen’s soy sauce. It’s slightly thicker, with richer, less salty flavor, all around smoother on the tongue. Tamari has umami, and is available wheat-free.

You can enliven any nut or seed with tamari following the same method. Skillet roasted tamari pumpkin seeds are the best!

These delicious and fresh tamari roasted almonds are made in a skillet too.

Make it a fabulous week–get in the kitchen and stir up a batch of tamari roasted nuts!

So glad to see you using gluten-free tamari. For those of us who are gluten sensitive, every place we can eliminate it helps Reply · 12 December, 2013

Thank you for such an awesome, easy, non-oven recipe. My oven is currently out of order, so finding a stove-top option was great. Just finished two batches of Tamari Sunflower Seeds, at a *fraction* of the cost of what I’ve paid in store, *and* more flavoursome (i.e.: I probably used a bit more tamari) than the store version. Snacks for the rest of the week, all done in less than half-an-hour (I include washing up time!). Thank you so much; it’s awesome to be able to make healthy snacks that I can be *guaranteed* are wheat/gluten free. I can’t wait to try more varieties now! Thank you!!! 🙂 Reply · 31 January, 2015

Thanks Ryan for the note. Yes, less expensive and we know the ingredients vs tamari nuts in the bulk bins. Reply · 1 February, 2015

Delicious and easy! I also love Tamari and used the low-sodium organic variety. Thank you for the brilliant recipe! Reply · 31 January, 2019

    • Thank you Susan! Yes amazingly easy! And fresher than ones you can buy pre-seasoned! Reply · 2 February, 2019

These are soooo good. I only had regular soy sauce but didn’t matter. After I was done making these, I used the recipe with raw pumpkin seeds. Worried that I’m going to eat them all in one sitting though. Reply · 26 January, 2020

    • Thank you Jasmyn! Tamari roasted seeds and nuts are so easy to make in the skillet! Reply · 27 January, 2020
