Orchard House Green Smoothie

Her style is elegant and simple, like this Orchard House green smoothie–a drink I shared at her house.

When I’m up in the Gorge, I get to go with Ginger to the Wednesday Portland Farmer’s Market. I consider it my job to help pack the car with boxes and crates of organic produce for the upcoming weekend. We grab a bite to eat and head back to Hood River. She needs to be back by 2pm because the kitchen crew will be waiting to unload the tightly packed car and begin prep for the next 4 or 5 days.

Ginger and Pierce

In July, Ginger and Pierce, her husband, and I splurged on an Outstanding in the Field dinner. Worth every dollar bill. We drove to Anne Amie Vineyards in the Willamette Valley on a hot-hot Sunday. There, served on long tables set right in the vineyard, we share a lavish family-style meal with 75 new friends. Imagine the showcase of local food and chefs, with plenty of good wine. Elegant and simple.

I love hanging out with Ginger and distracting her from her busy summer’s work.

One day at the house, Ginger, Pierce and I sat around their dining room table, they worked through payroll and I wrote a blog post recipe.  We tried to keep our noses to our computers, and not distract each other from our work. Ha Ha. Pierce blended up his green smoothies for breakfast.

The nice mix of greens we got in our Ranui Gardens CSA box this week is perfect in this delicious drink.

Orchard House Green Smoothie
Drink your breakfast! Be sure to share this nutritious and delicious smoothie with friends. If you think they won't like the green, have them close their eyes and taste--they'll be making green smoothies for themselves tomorrow.
Ingredients
  • Several handfuls of greens e.g. kale , spinach, chard
  • 1 banana
  • 1 scoop spirulina or other green powder (I use Pure Synergy)
  • 1 ½ cups juice (Pierce uses cranberry juice)
  • 2 ½ to 3 cups water
Instructions
  1. Put all of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
